Midwest Shorty - No Stalls Here

If you are tired of listening to your low speed motors stall, the Midwest Shorty may be your answer. In our opinion, this is the absolute bad boy of air driven slow speed motors. The strong turbine and drive ring motor led the way for many years prior to the introduction of electric slow speed motors to the operatory. If you intend on stalling this one at 6,000 rpm, prepare for a broken bur. This one won't work with your E-type attachments though, Midwest Shorty and Midwest Rhino handpieces have proprietary attachment couplings which are specific to these two. The popularity of the Midwest Shorty has, however, resulted in the appearance of replacement attachments made by others which are built very well, and a little easier on the bank account.

Midwest Shorty Attachments

Look for the newer Midwest Shorty nose cones with the twist type chuck, when you can find them. These are very smooth, and are easier on smaller hands providing quick, easy bur release. Tons of 45 degree contra angle sheaths available for these as well, and replacement heads are of high quality, made by companies such as Athena Champion, Johnson Promident, and Nakamura Dental.
